Poland: Akiem develops its business activities

Akiem has won a contract from Polish company Pol-Miedz Trans Sp. Z.o.o (PMT) for the hire of 5 locomotives.

Based in Lubin, Lower Silesia, PMT is a rail operator founded in 1997 and owner of a fleet of 66 locomotives and 1,500 railcars. It belongs to the publicly-owned KGHM Polska Miedz group, the 7th largest Polish company and international operator specialising in copper and silver extraction.

The contract signed on 14th of March is for delivery of five new Traxx DC locomotives from Akiem. They are the initial part of a programme for 20 new locomotives purchased from Bombardier Transportation by Akiem. Pol-Miedz Trans’ locomotives will be commissioned between March and October 2016 for a primary two-year phase.

Two years ago, Akiem signed its first contract with Orlen KolTrans, confirming its plans to expand in Poland. Since then, Akiem has not stopped growing on the Polish market with the hire of 12 locomotives to 5 customers in 2016.
